Divine Mercy
An invitation to "Living The Message"
On February 22, 1931, a young Polish nun, Sr. Faustina Kowalska, saw a vision of Jesus with rays of red and pale streaming from His Heart. He told her to have an image painted to represent this vision and to sign it, "Jesus, I trust in you!". Calling her the Apostle and Secretary of His mercy, He ordered her to begin writing a diary so others would learn to trust in Him.
On April 30, 2000, the Sunday after Easter, Pope John Paul II canonized Sr. Faustina Kowalska naming her the first Saint of the Jubilee Year ushering in the third millennium. Three times during his homily he emphasized that Sr. Faustina's canonization and this message of Divine Mercy is "God's gift to our time". Divine Mercy forms the "bridge from the second to the third millennium". On that day our Holy Father proclaimed the Sunday after Easter as "Divine Mercy Sunday" for the universal Church.
The devotional practices proposed in the Diary of St. Faustina are completely in accordance with the teaching of the Church and are firmly rooted in the Gospel message of our Merciful Savior. Properly understood and implemented, they will help us grow as genuine followers of Christ. Putting mercy into action is not an option of the Divine Mercy Devotion, it is a requirement!
I demand from you the deeds of mercy which are to arise out of love for me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors always and everywhere. You mush not shrink from this or try to excuse yourself from it. (diary 742)
The message of Mercy takes on a powerful new focus, calling people to a deeper understanding that God's Love and Mercy are unlimited and available to everyone---especially the greatest sinners."
The greater the sinner, the greater the right he has to My Mercy (diary 723)
